In the past, Kavarna had 12 spring fountains located along the valley that descended to the sea. Of them, only six remain. Each of the fountains has its own long history. The oldest one is Kavarna’s city fountain, built around 15th c., while the most famous one is Gumush Cheshma or the Silver Fountain. About the latter there are various legends. According to one of them, the water from the fountain was exported to Constantinople and it was also this water that gave to the once famous Kavarna mastic its specific taste and good quality. In the past, the fountain had the following inscription: “Drink this water, wash your face and your sins will be washed away”.
