This museum is located near the entrance of “Saint George” City Park that opened in 1867 and is declared an example of landscape gardening of cultural value. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Dobrich. It replaced an old bistro pub, which itself was built in the early 20th century. In 1925, famous Italian architects turned the building into a casino, which became a symbol of a town quickly developing a European outlook. The casino remained there until the end of the 1950s and was for decades a favorite spot of citizens and visitors of Dobrich. It was the place where the once popular balls, parties, dances and social evenings took place. After its reorganization in 1960, the building of the former casino became the first museum in Dobrich.
Today there are two separate exhibition halls. One of them presents the exhibition “Dobrudzha’s Nature," which follows modern museology trends and impresses with its originality. The second hall is intended for temporary exhibitions and educational programs. It hosts visiting exhibitions of international, national and regional significance, as well as various museum events, educational programs, auditoria, literary salons, forums, workshops and competitions.
In the period 2012-2013, the museum was renovated under the Dobrich Municipality’s project “Yovkov’s Dobrich – A Modern Tourist Destination”, OPRD. The old casino’s façade was restored, thus bringing back the memories of the old Dobrich and the once lost harmony in the cultural landscape.
