The festival-competition is a forum for singers, instrumentalists, chamber groups, choirs, orchestras and ensembles. It takes place in Dobrich each year in June. The International Youth Festival and Competition “Folklore without Borders” is organized by the Dobrich Municipality in partnership with government agencies and other natural and juridical persons.
Folklore without Borders” takes two forms: a competition and a festival, the two alternating with each other. These two events can be accompanied by additional activities: auditoria, creative meetings, concerts, workshops and master classes.
Launched in 2001 as a celebration of the unique, eternal and immensely diverse folklore traditions, the festival aims to encourage high quality artistry, to motivate young musicians and artists to preserve and develop folk traditions amidst today's globalization.
Previous editions of the festival-competition welcomed artists from Bulgaria, Turkey, Belarus, Sweden, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Macedonia, USA, France, Austria, Russia and its autonomous republics – Tatarstan, Kalmykia, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and others. It is carried out under the patronage of the mayor of Dobrich.
