July Morning is one of the holidays included in the cultural calendar of Kavarna Municipality. It was launched in 2004; after 1st of July, 2007 the event became a tradition. Then, at sunrise, the lead singer of Uriah Heep – John Lawton – performed the famous hit “July Morning” on the rocks near the sea in the Ogancheto area near the village of Kamen Bryag – Bulgaria’s most eastern coast. Since then, thousands of people gather every year, on the morning of 1st of July, to meet the first sunrays at the spot where the sun shines on our land for the first time.
The tradition is connected with the world hippie movement of the 1960s and the 1980s protests against the totalitarian regime in the years of socialism. For the original participants seeing the sunrise symbolizes new beginnings and hope for freedom. After the fall of the communist regime, the meaning of the celebration changed and what remains today is the excitement of the first morning rays as a symbol of the birth of life. Today the festival embodies the flight from civilization, the protest against the Self and the individual’s escape from the shackles of the big city.
The Ogancheto area in Kamen Bryag presents a charming combination of a sea of blue-green shades, a beautiful view and crystal air. For thousands of years, the locals have been living in harmony with nature and have preserved places of pristine beauty and an amazing variety of plants and animals in combination with cultural-historical monuments. Here you will meet incredibly kind-hearted, spontaneous and warm people.
